Exterior Storm
Quality, low-e storm windows can be made by local storm window fabricators or ordered from national manufacturers specializing in high performance storm windows. Storm frames can be baked enamel aluminum, fiberglass, or plastic (most commonly PVC). By far the most common are baked enamel aluminum. We list manufacturers that comply with these performance standards:
- Glass emissivity < 0.22 as registered in the International Glazing Database (IGDB) with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
- Structural performance grade of 15 or higher as tested in accordance with ANSI/AAMA 1002.10 or AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440.
We also only list manufacturers that offer a 20-year warranty on their storm window products.
Exterior storms are typically installed by a contractor, but DIY storm windows are available.
